Budding type

The position of new buds relative to the parent corallite wall (calical surface)
 
Character State Definition Illustration
extramural New buds form outside of the wall of the parent corallite
intramural; <3 centers per series New buds form within the wall of the parent corallite, one or two centers per series
intramural; 1-3 centers per series New buds form within the wall of the parent corallite, up to three centers per series
intramural polycentric lamellar New buds form within the wall of the parent corallite, with more than three centers per series and lamellar plates extending between centers
intramural polystomodaeal trabecular New buds form within the wall of the parent corallite, with more than three centers per series and trabeculae extending between centers
circummural New buds form within the wall of the parent corallite, with centers arranged around discontinuous collines or monticules
